How to use Custom Adjustments in the Orenda App

In Orenda version 5.1, we introduced custom adjustments for chemistry values. Here's how to use them.

Orenda5.1_AppUpdate_v2

Since the first release of the Orenda App (1.0) in 2017, users have adjusted chemistry values by sliding dials left and right.  In version 5.1 (August 2024), we have introduced a new feature, allowing users to choose between dials and adding custom values into the calculator.

How to enable custom adjustments

At the top left of the Orenda Calculator™, there is a toggle to select between "Dials" and "Custom".  Select custom.

1-2

Note: This toggle replaced a previous toggle that allowed users to show and hide secondary readings like the pH ceiling and carbonate alkalinity.  We have since decided to always show those secondary readings because they are important for proactive pool chemistry.

How to input custom values

Either tap the left and right arrows, or tap and type in a custom value in the box.  Using the left and right arrows will adjust values on the same increments as the the dials. For more precision, you can tap the number inside the box and a keyboard will pop up.  Tap and type the exact value you want, then tap Done to close the keyboard and continue.

Orenda Calculator custom inputs, precise LSI calculation

We have allowed the pH to be entered with up to two decimal places, increasing precision.  Increased precision, of course, increases the precision of the LSI calculation too.

Will the LaMotte SpinTouch integration still work with custom inputs enabled?

Yes, the LaMotte integration still works. You should see blue numbers with specific values when sending LaMotte results to the Orenda Calculator via bluetooth.

Why we added custom inputs

We added custom inputs for two reasons:

A couple of months prior to releasing version 5.1, we tested a new web version of our calculator that was more like the mobile app user experience. It removed the tap-and-type input format in favor of dials. It was NOT well received by customers.  Lesson learned.

The feedback was loud, urgent, and clear: customers wanted the old version back because they could type in exact values. Customers like precision, and so do we.

So we decided to build a similar version of the web calculator in the app as an option.  This allows customers to see exactly what their pH at the pH ceiling will do to the LSI, and other great benefits. So go ahead! Get specific.

Enjoy the app, and thank you for using it.
